Eco-Insulation is based on cellulose fibre that is recycled from commercial waste streams. Our cellulose fibre us specially treated and is known to slow down the rate of burning of timber and allows occupants more time to gather their valuables and escape. The recent high growth in cellulose loose fill insulation in the United States is partly attributed to this phenomenon. Studies have shown that cellulose may actually protect a building from damage by fire better than other loose fill products such as glass fibre and polyester – it is denser and limits the oxygen necessary to burn structural members. It also acts as a massive heat sink.
Treated with an environmentally-friendly, naturally-occurring fire-retardant, Eco-Insulation is fire-tested under SANS 428 (SA Bureau of Standards) and officially rated as B/B1/2, meaning no spread of flame.
